DIY Home Remedies For Migraine Headache
Migraine is one of the type of headache which is mostly occurs in women rather than men. It is actually a throbbing pain which affects one side of the head and is accompanied by the symptoms like nausea, vomiting, disturbed vision etc. Prodome, Aura, Attack and Postdrome are the symptoms of this migraine headache.
Hormonal changes in women, stress, diet, sensory stimuli, wake sleep pattern, changes in environment, medications, and physical factors are the causes of the migraine headaches.

So try these natural remedies for migraine headache ....
Peppermint Oil
Peppermint has calming and numbering properties which help to get relief from the migraine.
Process:
- Take a few drops of peppermint oil into your hands
- Rub it in your forehead and temples
- Leave it for 15 - 30 minutes
- You get relax from the migraine due to its anti inflammatory property
Ginger
Ginger is very effective to treat the sensation of heat and nausea which is caused by migraines.
Process:
- Take a fresh ginger root and wash it clearly and pat dry
- Peel it off the skin of ginger
- Cut it into small slices
- Take a saucepan and pour all these slices into it
- Add enough water to it and let it boil for 15 -20 minutes
- Take it off and drink it slowly to get rid of the migraines
Tea Tree Oil
Anti inflammatory property of tea tree oil will help in curing the migraine headache, as it reduces the inflammation which causes the pain of migraine.
Process:
- Take few drops of tea tree oil into your palm
- Apply it by gently massaging it on your head, until it has been absorbed by your skin
- Repeat the process if you feel necessary
Vinegar
It helps to cure the migraine as it protects your brain cells which get affected to migraine. It gives relief to pregnant women without any harm.
Process:
- Take vinegar in a bowl and wash cloth
- Now soak this wash cloth in vinegar
- Lay this cloth on the affected area where it is hurting you
- Leave it for 30 minutes by allowing the vinegar to seep into your skin
- After 30 minutes take out the wash cloth as it will cure your migraine pain
Cayenne Pepper
Capsaicin which is present in the cayenne pepper is a terrific pain killer and helps to prevent you from the migraine.
Process:
- Take few cayenne pepper / red pepper to add it in your meals
- Or, you can buy cayenne pepper capsules from your health medical shop
- Regular taking of it will definitely give relief from migraine treatment
Lavender Oil
It will also help to cure the migraine headache as it smells great. It can be either inhaled or applied directly on the affected area. So, take 2-4 drops for every 2-3 cups of boiling water (recommended to inhale the oil vapours to get rid of the migraine). But make sure that this lavender oil should not be taken orally. There is no need to dilute it when applied externally.
Caffeine
Caffeine can restrict blood vessels to lessen pain. Caffeine is a double - edged sword as it can increase or decrease the pain, depending on the people who have the habit of drinking it.
Hot Compress
Hot compress will also give relief from the migraine pain. You can either put this hot compress in any of the following ways:
- Take a wash cloth and dip it in the hot water. Now, put it around the affected part of your head to get relief from the migraine.
- Take a wash cloth and put this on a saucepan over medium heat for few minutes or simply in the microwave. Take it out and apply it on the affected part to get instant relief from the migraine headache. It won't be same for everyone, so it's better to check it once whether it is workable to your or not.
- Take hot water shower by making hot water penetrate into your head and neck. Stay in the shower as long as you can to prevent the migraine.
Cold Compress
It is also one of the oldest remedy which is used for the treatment of migraine. It will numb and give relief. Take ice cubes or cool water and apply on the affected and painful area of the head with a towel or wash cloth.
Tips to reduce migraine
- Dehydration will also cause migraine headache. So, drink at least 8-10 glasses (Oz) of water every day to get rid of the migraine.
- Tying a headband around your head will give some relief from the pain.
- Sleep regularly at the same schedule by keeping your room dark as irregular sleeping times and light will trigger for headache which at last leads to migraine pain.
- Avoid skipping your meals which will cause migraine pain. You have to take your meals smaller in three times a day to be in perfect health.
- There are certain foods and drinks which trigger for migraine headache, so take a note of all these things and avoid them.
