In order to receive wi-fi throughout the rest of the flat, our router must be placed in a prominent location of the living room. This diva signal initially left us with an eyesore of an ugly, blinking light box and I hated it. I did everything I could to camouflage it by setting picture frames and flowers-filled vases in front of it.

One day, after I had complained enough about it, Joe had the brilliant idea to cover it with a book. A few days later he came home with a vintage book he bought for 50p (cents) and got to work with his trusty blade. It took less than a minute to cut the pages out and bend the spine to widen the overall fit. Once the cover was placed over the router I saw the true brilliance of Joe's idea - simple, practical and effective ....

Apparently if you disconnect and reconnect the battery, then plug the unit back into its factory wall charger, you'll convince the tablet to wake up and try charging the battery again.

The only bad news about this is that it's not as simple as removing the back of a Galaxy phone. In fact, it's possible that attempting this will void your warranty, so proceed with caution!

Getting the back off requites gently prying the edges away from the screen in the little crack between the screen and the case all around the perimeter of the screen. Doing this properly requires a thin plastic pry tool and some patience.  Do not use a knife as the metal can scratch the case or even potentially cause a short inside the unit. We have readers write in to say guitar picks and old credit cards also can be used. By all means, be careful and DON'T FORCE IT! Work the pry tool around the edges until the screen separates from the back casing by itself without any force.

Supplies:
  • white marble contact paper
  • x-acto knife
  • laptop
  • microfiber cleaning cloth
  • hairdryer

How To:
  1. First clean your laptop with the microfiber cleaning cloth.
  2. Lay down your piece of contact paper over top the laptop with out removing the backing just yet. Cut a square that is relatively the same size as the top of your laptop. Leave an inch all the way around.
  3. Peel off your backing and slowly lay it on your computer going from top to bottom or left to right to avoid bubbles. If you lay it straight down, bubble city fail.
  4. There may be some rogue no matter what, so try to get them out. You can do so by poking a teeny hole with your X-acto knife, if needed.
  5. Head to your bathroom and get your blow dryer ready. You are gonna want to pull on the edges while blow drying. The laptop edges of a mac are rounded, which makes it hard to lay flat. The blow dryer does the trick. Don't make it too hot or hold it for too long, 5 seconds on medium heat should be sufficient.
  6. Lay your computer flat and cut off the excess contact paper with your x-acto knife. Go slow and stay steady. Once you get the motion, you will find the straight line sweet spot.
  7. The last step is to cut out the Apple symbol. Do this with the laptop open so the light goes on making it easier to trace. Again, go slow and be patient. You don't want to rush through this and mess things up.

Materials:

  • EKBY VALTER bracket
  • 1 Dowel
  • 2 Screws

Instructions:

1. Take Ekby Valter bracket and turn it upside down.

2. Remove bottom screw from Ekby, replace with longer screw, then screw dowel into same hole (make sure the dowel is screwed in so that it makes a deeper lip for iPad to sit on).

3. Screw in a horizontal dowel in the hole below, close enough to the surface, to act as a stabilizer.

4. Add rubber cushion things for traction (and to make sure that stabilizer actually touches the surface).

While you can get screen cleaning sprays for your LCD display from any electronic store, it can get a little expensive, and the ingredients can easily be found at home. So why not make your own screen cleaning solution instead? It goes great with the useless-by-itself microfiber cloth.

Ingredients:
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Distilled water
  • Spray bottle
