Knowing what to sub in for your regular products will ensure any beauty emergency is resolved with minimal anxiety. Here are some quick beauty substitutes that will be there for you in your time of need ....
Don' have: shaving cream? Try: hair conditioner
The conditioner helps soften hair and is jam-packed with hydrating ingredients, leaving your skin smooth post-shave.
Don't have: blush? Try: lipstick
Blend onto the cheeks just as you would a cream blush. Just remember to opt for light shades, such as pinks and oranges, which will work well on the cheeks.
Don't have: makeup remover? Try: lip balm
Wipe clear balm over your eyelids and onto the upper lashes, then wash off with a damp cotton bub or cloth. The oils and emollients in the balm will help break down mascara and eye makeup.
Don't have: acne treatment? Try: tea tree oil or toothpaste
With its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties, tea tree oil will penetrate the skin to unblock the sebaceous glands, drying out the blemishes. Use a cotton tip to put the oil on the affected area.
Toothpaste contains ingredients such as baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, menthol and essential oils, which all cause pimples to dry out. Unlike tea-tree oil, it doesn't contain any ingredients that are more effective than conventional treatments, so save toothpaste for those one-off occasions.
Don't have: night cream? Try: eye cream
Eye creams are often high-potent ointments meant to reduce wrinkles and hydrate the eye area, making them a perfect substitute for a night cream. Be sure to use it sparingly as the active ingredients can cause a negative reaction to your skin.
Don't have: cleanser? Try: olive oil
Place a warm cloth on the face for about 20 seconds, remove and massage in the oil. After 30 seconds use the cloth to wipe the oil away. It'll work wonders to dissolve and remove dirt from the skin's surface.
While it's fine to use food-grade oils to clean your skin, it's better to go for the cold-pressed varieties and to avoid processed oils like canola or vegetable.
Don't have: eyebrow gel? Try: Paw Paw ointment
A light tap along your brows will help hairs stay in place.
Don't have: dry shampoo? Try: talcum powder
Sprinkle the powder onto the roots then brush through. The powder will soak up the oil and give locks an extra dose of texture.
Don't have: toner? Try: apple cider vinegar
Made from fermented apples, the vinegar helps skin find the ideal balance between dry and oily.
Don't have: liquid eyeliner? Try: mascara
Dab a small amount of mascara onto a cotton tip or brush. Then line the eyelids as you would a liner.
